Nosy Be international airport now has solar shading to supply it with renewable energy while flights are being handled during the day.
These solar shadings, operational since last March, are part of a wider objective for Ravinala Airports to move towards zero-impact operations on the environment, more specifically, to achieve 35% renewable energy use by 2025 for the Antananarivo and Nosy Be airports.
Nosy Be airport has also been awarded level 2 accreditation by ACA (Accreditation Carbon Airport), an Airports Council International (ACI) program entitled “Reduction”, in recognition of the actions taken to reduce the airport’s carbon emissions since 2019.
Thanks to these solar infrastructures and their production capacity of 52kWp, the terminal will be able to supply the daytime electrical needs required for its operation. They will significantly reduce the airport’s annual carbon footprint. The choice of shading systems will also enable us to increase the service provided to customers and users over the long term, by offering shaded, rain-protected parking spaces for 20 vehicles.
This achievement positions Nosy Be as a pioneer, as its airport is the first to have such an infrastructure in Madagascar.
