Valiha Bridge: Completion of a Major Relocation Project at Nosy Be International Airport

Ravinala Airports celebrated on January 23 in Nosy Be the successful completion of the relocation of the village previously located within the airport zone to the new resettlement village of “Pont Valiha,” also known as “Fascène Nafindra,” marking a major milestone in the development and security of Nosy Be International Airport. This official ceremony, held in the presence of local authorities, institutional partners, and residents, marks the success of a long-term relocation process that placed the affected communities at the heart of the project, in line with International Finance Corporation (IFC) standards.Today, Pont Valiha is a self-sufficient village under the responsibility of the Municipality of Nosy Be, equipped with serviced infrastructure, access to water and electricity, and improved living conditions for its residents. Formerly without land titles for their homes located in the airport area, residents are now land title holders, have benefited from more than five years of support in restoring their livelihoods, and have received new homes built according to designs of their choice.

CSR Action in Nosy Be: Encouraging Reading from an Early Age

As part of its commitment to social responsibility, Ravinala Airports recently carried out a CSR initiative in Nosy Be to support children’s education and encourage reading from an early age among those living near the airport. In partnership with Teach For Madagascar (TFM), an association recognized for its efforts to promote access to education, reading and learning books were donated to local children. These materials will help them discover and strengthen their basic reading skills. The TFM association will also conduct regular reading sessions using the donated books. This initiative also offers Ravinala Airports employees the opportunity to take part in these meaningful moments of sharing and learning. Through this action, Ravinala Airports reaffirms its social commitment and its determination to contribute to local development and support education, a true driver for the future of younger generations.

Nosy Be international airport powered by solar energy

Nosy Be international airport now has solar shading to supply it with renewable energy while flights are being handled during the day. These solar shadings, operational since last March, are part of a wider objective for Ravinala Airports to move towards zero-impact operations on the environment, more specifically, to achieve 35% renewable energy use by 2025 for the Antananarivo and Nosy Be airports. Nosy Be airport has also been awarded level 2 accreditation by ACA (Accreditation Carbon Airport), an Airports Council International (ACI) program entitled “Reduction”, in recognition of the actions taken to reduce the airport's carbon emissions since 2019. Thanks to these solar infrastructures and their production capacity of 52kWp, the terminal will be able to supply the daytime electrical needs required for its operation. They will significantly reduce the airport's annual carbon footprint. The choice of shading systems will also enable us to increase the service provided to customers and users over the long term, by offering shaded, rain-protected parking spaces for 20 vehicles. This achievement positions Nosy Be as a pioneer, as its airport is the first to have such an infrastructure in Madagascar.#Infrastructure #Innovation #RSE
